ABOUT PRODUCTID 3142
This early 20th-century crystal inkwell, crafted from faceted cut glass, embodies the geometric spirit of Secessionist Art Nouveau. Its form rises pyramidally from a square base (9.5 × 9.5 cm), with sharply defined, mirror-polished facets that catch the light. The oval, faceted lid features a series of parallel cuts, mirrored on the sides of the body, lending rhythm and visual clarity while emphasizing the symmetry of the design. The material is distinguished by its high clarity and cool-toned luster, and the entire piece remains in very good condition, showing only minor surface scratches and minimal wear at the base, with no chips or cracks. All elements appear original, with no visible signs of restoration. This inkwell seems to whisper the story of a modernist dawn, when geometric Secession abandoned decorative exuberance in favor of disciplined forms and crystalline transparency. Its cool, clear sheen evokes images of early 20th-century studies where morning light danced across polished surfaces, and precise lines heralded a new aesthetic order. Each cut, every crisp edge, echoes the modernist ambition for order and harmony, weaving itself into the daily rituals of writing and reflection. Placed atop a substantial wooden desk, the inkwell can be showcased alone to highlight its sculptural quality, or accompanied by other period accessories: a brass pen, a porcelain letter tray, a small photo frame. It will fit seamlessly into a classical study or an eclectic collector’s interior, where the austerity of crystal may contrast with the soft glow of a lamp or the dark grain of wood. It may be paired with muted textiles or minimalist ceramics to let its clear geometry take center stage on the writing surface.
