This cup and saucer set, produced by Chodzież in the 1970s, is an example of Polish porcelain design informed by mid-century modern and art déco influences. Crafted from porcelain with a smooth, polished surface, the set features a deep, mirror-like black glaze that reflects light. Both the cup and saucer are adorned with an irregular, gold pattern reminiscent of crackle or veining, lending a dynamic, decorative effect. The cup has a gently conical profile and a pronounced, square handle, each edge delicately outlined in gold, as is the rim of the saucer. The gold decoration was applied using a transfer technique. The set is preserved in very good condition, with no visible signs of use, chips, or cracks, and remains in its original, authentic form. The design recalls the spirit of the 1970s, when Polish porcelain manufacturers sought their own voice, merging geometric discipline with decorative opulence. Black and gold create a visual dialogue between everyday use and a sense of occasion—as if the cup evokes stories of evening coffee gatherings, with lamplight reflected in glossy porcelain and the energetic gold motif evoking a festive mood. The distinctive handle and geometric proportions echo the optimism and boldness of the era’s design, allowing everyday objects to take on an extraordinary character. The set could be displayed on a shelf or console in the living room, where it will subtly reflect both natural and artificial light. It would work well in mid-century modern interiors, especially when paired with simple ceramics
