ABOUT PRODUCTID 4950
The “Sonja” jam set from the 1930s is a fine example of German Art Deco glassware, produced by VEB Glaswerk Schwepnitz. This seven-piece ensemble, designed for six people, comprises a large bowl (32 x 23 x 7 cm) and six smaller bowls (14 x 11 x 3.5 cm). Each piece is made of pressed glass, colored in mass in a distinctive rosaline pink shade, featuring a tonal gradient—from a deeper pink at the base to a nearly matte, semi-transparent finish along the upper edges. The set’s hallmark is its geometric, stylized edges: zigzag and scalloped profiles reminiscent of flower petals or sunbursts, with sharply defined pressed patterns on every bowl and matching handles that seamlessly integrate into the design. The craftsmanship is precise, with no visible seams or imperfections, underscoring the high standards of the era’s glassmaking. The set is preserved in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or signs of wear. This rosaline set quietly echoes an era when utility and ornamentation walked hand in hand. In the 1930s, pressed glass was at its zenith, bringing a festive quality to everyday rituals. The semi-matte finish softens the light, while the geometric contours reflect it like rays of morning sun on a breakfast table. The “Sonja” pattern tells a story of hope and joy that new forms of early modernism brought—its delicate pink hue a deliberate choice to brighten daily life. The set can be paired with simple-lined porcelain or classic silver cutlery to highlight its Art Deco heritage.
