This Biedermeier jardiniere, dating from circa 1860–1880 and originating in Norway, is crafted from clear, multi-faceted cut crystal glass that captures and reflects light in geometric facets. The bowl features a wide, undulating scalloped rim reminiscent of a flounce, while the glass surface is glossy and transparent, emphasizing its purity. The jardiniere is adorned with a delicately pierced and engraved silver mount — hallmarked with the Norwegian lion, goldsmith’s initials, and period assay marks — which harmoniously encircles the bowl. The arched, hinged handle is decorated with subtle, floral engravings at the points of attachment. The proportions — a broad, shallow bowl and slender high handle — reinforce its classical character. Condition is very good: the crystal is free from chips and cracks, and the silver shows only minor, natural signs of age, with a gentle, authentic patina.Rooted in Biedermeier Norway of the late 19th century, this jardiniere evokes an era when functionality and restrained ornamentation coexisted in harmony.
