ABOUT PRODUCTID 37978
This late 19th-century jewelry and valuables casket, crafted by WMF in Germany, exemplifies the refined artistry of European metalwork. Made of repoussé brass in a cool, silvery tone, it stands on four spherical feet and displays an ornate relief of scrolling acanthus leaves, rocaille motifs, and floral decorations characteristic of the Rococo revival. The predominantly matte surface is enlivened by subtle highlights on raised details, creating depth and visual contrast. Its rectangular silhouette is complemented by a gently domed lid and decorative cartouches on each side, left blank for personalization. The interior is lined with sapphire-blue silk, and the casket closes with a fully functional lock and a small, slightly mismatched key. The base bears the WMF maker’s mark. It is preserved in very good condition, showing only minor signs of age with no visible damage or repairs. This casket seems to whisper stories of its era—a time when craftsmanship and ornamentation naturally intertwined with everyday functionality. The rocaille and acanthus reliefs evoke the ambiance of fin de siècle salons, where even utilitarian objects were elevated to the status of art. The cool touch of metal contrasts with the softness of the silk lining, suggesting a narrative of elegance and attention to detail—as if the casket awaits future generations to safeguard their treasured keepsakes. The casket would suit a placement atop a bedroom dressing table or in a boudoir, where its decorative presence enhances a classic interior. It could be paired with other 19th-century revival accessories—mirrors in ornate frames, porcelain figurines, or velvet
