ABOUT PRODUCTID 23294
The 'dinosaur' jug, designed by Bolesław Książek for the Kamionka Cooperative in Łysa Góra, originates from the 1960s. Crafted from glazed ceramics, it features a uniform, deep black color with a highly reflective, mirror-like finish. The vessel stands on three small, pointed legs, while the handle and spout merge into a single, sweeping arch, creating a dynamic and asymmetrical silhouette. Free from decorative motifs or color accents, the design embraces a minimalist, modernist restraint. The surface is flawlessly smooth, and the dimensions—22.5 cm in height, 14.5 cm in length, and 10 cm in width—give it a sculptural, striking presence. The piece is preserved in very good condition, showing no signs of wear, damage, or restoration. In its form, the jug seems to narrate the modernist boldness of 1960s Polish design. Organic lines and its almost prehistoric, zoomorphic shape recall experimental approaches to material, as if the ceramic itself sought to enliven daily life with a touch of the avant-garde. The black glaze glistens like volcanic glass, and the object—part playful, part serious—balances between applied art and sculpture, quietly embodying an era that believed function and form could be inseparable. The jug can be displayed on a light wood surface or shelf, where the play of light on the glossy glaze will reveal its depth. It may be paired with other vessels of geometric form or with a simple glass carafe, establishing a dialogue between the organic silhouette and a minimalist setting. The piece works well in mid-century modern interiors or in a collector’s space devoted to Polish artistic ceramics, serving as either a functional vessel or a sculptural decorative accent.
