This antique French kitchen shelf, dating from the turn of the 20th century, exemplifies rural craftsmanship from Normandy and is crafted entirely from solid wood in a warm, honey-brown tone. Measuring 152 cm in width, it features five evenly sized drawers with simple, round wooden knobs and, beneath them, seven rounded wooden pegs for hanging kitchen utensils or towels. The construction is straightforward and robust, with visible joinery and subtly irregular edges characteristic of handcrafted folk pieces. Thick, gently curved supports ensure stability, while the surface bears a natural patina, minor abrasions, chips, and gentle discoloration—particularly around the pegs and drawer handles. The back and lower rail display signs of old repairs and reinforcements, attesting to years of everyday use. The piece is preserved in good condition, consistent with its age and function, with all elements appearing original and in line with the period.This shelf seems to whisper stories of French homes where simplicity meets utility.
