ABOUT PRODUCTID 16841
This glass lidded box, crafted by De Rupel in the Belgian town of Boom during the 1930s, faithfully represents the core principles of the Art Deco movement. Measuring 9.5 cm in width and 10 cm in height, the box is made of translucent green glass with a smooth, glossy surface. Broad metallic gold bands encircle the dome-shaped lid and the base, highlighting its geometric proportions and the repeated horizontal ridges of the design. The top is adorned with a spherical handle, seamlessly combining function and ornament. The gilded bands show minor rubbing and faint traces of age; a few very small nicks are visible on the upper edge of the base, but the overall condition remains good, with all original decorative elements intact and no evidence of restoration. The form of the box creates a dialogue with the era in which it was made: geometric discipline, the interplay of light across the glass and metallic accents, and rhythmic ridging reveal Art Deco's affinity for ordered decoration and the optimistic elegance of the 1930s. As the gold gently wears along the surface, the glass acquires an authentic patina, suggesting a quiet narrative from a time when daily routines were framed by beauty and detail was cherished in everyday objects. This box could be paired with other glass artefacts from the 1920s and 1930s or added to an eclectic Art Deco collection among chromed lamps and geometric frames. It would work well in a bedroom—on a dresser beside a mirror, or as a jewellery container on a vanity, where its silhouette supports a poised, uplifting interior scheme. It may also be combined with matte ceramics or wooden surfaces to accentuate the contrast between glass and softer textures. No special care is required beyond gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth; harsh detergents should be avoided to preserve the original gilding
