ABOUT PRODUCTID 35780
Designed by Ángel Pazmiño and produced by Muebles de Estilo in Ecuador during the 1960s, this lounge chair embodies a bold fusion of South American modernism and local craftsmanship. The construction relies on solid meranti wood, sculpted into robust, gently curved legs with a matte finish that highlights the wood’s natural grain. The seat and backrest are crafted from thick, natural leather, hand-tooled with intricate geometric patterns inspired by pre-Columbian art, lending both visual depth and cultural reference. A folding mechanism enhances practicality, while the low, wide proportions and slightly reclined back emphasize its lounge function. The absence of armrests and a horizontal stretcher beneath the seat underscores its minimalist, functional construction. Both wood and leather display visible signs of use—scratches, scuffs, and a rich patina—typical of authentic vintage furniture from this period. The hand-tooled leather, adorned with pre-Columbian motifs, recalls ancient traditions, while the strong, simple wooden lines echo Scandinavian influence. Each mark and scuff tells a story of everyday life—of relaxation, conversations, and moments suspended in time, when design was meant to serve not just comfort, but also to bridge cultures. The chair can be paired with a minimalist solid wood coffee table or a contemporary metal floor lamp to emphasize the dialogue between tradition and modernity. It works well in a living room styled in mid-century modern spirit or an eclectic collector’s interior, alongside textiles with ethnic patterns or South American ceramics. It is worth combining with a
