ABOUT PRODUCTID 21359
This late 19th-century milk jug, produced in the Viennese silver-plating workshop of Albrecht Koller, is a fine example of classicist form enriched with historicist details. The main body is crafted from silver-plated brass with a cool, mirrored sheen, finished with an openwork, repeating geometric and floral pattern along the upper rim, allowing the intense cobalt blue of the removable glass liner to shine through. The handle, cast in the form of a curling scroll with zoomorphic (dragon or serpent) detailing, reflects the eclectic tendencies of the late 19th century. The vessel stands on a round, stepped pedestal, providing balance and stability. The metal surface is smooth and polished, with only a subtle patina, while the glass liner remains original and undamaged. Overall, the condition is very good; all components are authentic, with only minor signs of age consistent with antiques of this period. The jug’s form and ornamentation embody the spirit of Vienna’s fin de siècle, an era defined by artistic vibrancy and an appreciation for stylistic detail. The metal gleams with a cool light, while the cobalt glass captures and reflects color like a fragment from a Secessionist mosaic. The handle’s ornamentation tells of a fascination with exoticism and mythology, and the openwork rim allows light to play upon the blue glass
