ABOUT PRODUCTID 4515
This miniature sculpture of a puppy was hand-carved in the Far East from very hard, dark Japanese boxwood. Carved from a single piece of wood, the construction is compact and reveals the carver's mastery. The surface displays a deep, warm brown with subtle reddish and golden undertones; the semi-matte finish gently highlights the richly textured fur and finely rendered facial features. Details have been executed with close attention to anatomical accuracy—a glossy finish accentuates the eyes, while the slightly protruding tongue, rendered in a darker tone, reflects the naturalistic style characteristic of East Asian miniature sculpture from the turn of the 20th century. The piece is in excellent condition, with no visible damage or wear; the patina is even, enhancing the depth of the carving. Within this small figure lies the spirit of traditional Far Eastern workshops: the patiently worked wood seems to tell a story of craftsmanship and reverence for nature. The puppy—captured with softly curling fur, a gentle gaze, and a characteristic tongue—evokes the quiet of domestic life
