ABOUT PRODUCTID 16891
This miniature hand mirror from France, dating to around 1890, is a showcase of late 19th-century decorative artistry in Rococo style. Its frame is crafted from gilded bronze and adorned with cloisonné enamel in a rich, multicolored palette, dominated by deep blue, accented with touches of yellow, orange, red, white, and light blue. The enamel surface is intricately decorated with flowing, floral and foliate motifs and rhythmic geometric patterns—visual language characteristic of the era’s exuberance. The crystal mirror glass is hand-cut, with softly undulating, irregular edges and preserves its original clarity. The reverse features a discreetly integrated hook, allowing the mirror to be hung as a wall piece. Metal surfaces display a gentle patina suitable for its age, and the construction remains cohesive with no signs of damage or excessive wear. Its slender proportions (22.5 × 11 × 0.8 cm) and mirror glass dimensions (10 × 7 cm) further echo its elegant origin. The piece is overall in good condition, with only minor traces of use reflecting the passage of time.
This mirror conjures the world of the Belle Époque—a period when ornament was a part of everyday ritual, elevating daily accessories to objects of staged refinement. Each nuanced color and the lustrous play of light through the enamel narrate a story of salons and beauty rituals, where even the most miniature item served as a silent ambassador of personal taste. The gleaming enamel, catching the light from different angles, subtly evokes the discreet luxury embedded in French decorative art—where harmony between form and palette held
