This Biedermeier mocha cup and saucer from Austria, dating to 1820–1840, exemplifies the refined porcelain craftsmanship of the post-Napoleonic era. The body is made from thin, cool white porcelain, serving as a backdrop for vivid, hand-painted decoration: dominant red-orange stylised flowers with black outlines and centers, beige-taupe leaf motifs, and swirling patterns, all highlighted by glossy gilding on edges, the handle, and the central medallion of the saucer. The cup’s straight cylindrical form and delicately arched gilded handle maintain proportions characteristic of Biedermeier composition, while the shallow, concave saucer features a broad raised rim repeating gold and red spirals, with a central medallion edged by geometric and abstract detailing. The set bears no maker’s mark, typical of small Austrian manufactories of this era.
