ABOUT PRODUCTID 8444
This mocha cup and saucer from the 'Bałtyk' service is a design by Bogdan Wendorf for the Ćmielów Porcelain Factory, created in Poland in the 1930s. Crafted in high-gloss porcelain, it stands out with a deep, saturated cobalt blue that envelops both cup and saucer. Gold accents – present along the rim of the cup and saucer, encircling the white central field of the saucer, and fully gilding the angular, faceted handle – introduce geometric Art Deco contrasts. The handle’s distinctive form is both decorative and functional, and the set’s proportions are carefully balanced: the cup measures 4 cm high by 7.5 cm in diameter, the saucer 12.5 cm. The set is marked with the Ćmielów factory stamp, confirming authenticity. The condition is very good, with no signs of wear or damage; the porcelain surface remains smooth and reflective. This cup echoes the spirit of Polish Art Deco in the interwar years. The cool cobalt recalls the rhythm of modernist cityscapes and the refined ambiance of prewar cafés, while the gold detailing suggests the rituals of elegant social gatherings. The restrained yet confident silhouette and geometric handle seem to narrate an era in which luxury and functionality met at a small cup of coffee—every detail testifying to a pursuit of harmony between form and purpose. The set may be used as a refined part of a coffee service or as a collector’s accent on a display shelf or console. It could be paired with pressed glass, silver spoons, or geometric vases from the 1920s and 1930s. In an Art Deco or modernist interior, the cup introduces a sophisticated contrast of color and metal; in more eclectic spaces, it can serve as a subtle nod to the history of Polish design.
