ABOUT PRODUCTID 30205
This freestanding desk from the 1970s, crafted by the Danish manufactory Eigil Petersens Møbelfabrik, exemplifies the Scandinavian modernism of its era. The body, made of rosewood in a distinctive medium-dark brown with pronounced natural graining, reflects careful material selection. The desk features two symmetrical drawer modules—each with three drawers—fitted with rectangular, brushed metal handles and matching metal-capped feet. The geometric, straight legs are joined by horizontal stretchers, enhancing stability and lending a clear, modernist silhouette. At the front, a wide knee hole and open shelves for books increase practicality. The wood surface is smooth, semi-matte, with a subtle sheen. The desk is in excellent, restored condition: the wood has been cleaned, stained with rosewood dye, and finished with a semi-matte lacquer, while the metal elements are polished and free from corrosion. The form of this piece tells the story of 1970s functionalism—a period when Danish design embraced simplicity and user comfort, favoring clean lines over excess ornamentation. The rosewood, with its vivid grain and color depth, evokes the mood of architects’ studios and creative offices of the era. Metal details and geometric clarity highlight the modernist dialogue between skilled craftsmanship and innovation, as if the desk offered to organize daily life with understated confidence—a place for ideas and work to unfold. The desk can be paired with an upholstered chair of simple form, ideally in solid fabric or natural leather. Interiors styled in mid-century modern, Scandinavian simplicity, or contemporary minimalism will allow the noble character of rosewood to resonate. It is worth combining it with a table lamp with a geometric shade, and arranging selected architecture books or neutral ceramics on the shelves. The desk will also work well as the centerpiece
