ABOUT PRODUCTID 17147
This small metal figurine, designed by Jean-Paul Le Verrier in France in the late 1940s or 1950s, depicts a seated monk holding a deep bowl. Cast from a metal alloy of cool, deep silver-gray tone, it features a matte, subtly satin finish with gentle variations in tone visible on protruding areas: the head, hands, and bowl rim. Its monolithic, joint-free construction gives the object a sense of unity, while the smooth surface reveals delicate casting marks and minor age-consistent scratches under close inspection. The composition is defined by simplified, geometric lines—a hallmark of mid-century modern design—accentuated in the sharp beard, stylized facial features, and elongated limbs. Proportions are harmonious, with the bowl gracefully cradled by the curved arms. The piece is signed by the designer on its underside. Dimensions: height 8 cm, width 7.5 cm, depth 10 cm. The figurine remains in very good, original condition with no visible damage or repairs. This figure expresses the quiet spirit of late French modernism, where minimalism met expressive detail. With closed lips and a contemplative posture, the monk seems to embody restraint and silent presence—evoking an atmosphere of calm reflection amid the lively decades following the war. The subtle patina and softened highlights on the metal surface impart a sense of age and dignity, resonating with the everyday poise of mid-20th-century French decorative arts. Le Verrier's work can be displayed as a solitary accent on a bookshelf, console, or low table in the living room, providing a strong counterpoint to marble, oak, or dark veneer. Within a mid-century modern setting, it may be paired with sculptural ceramics, minimalist lighting, or
