This small metal figurine, designed by Jean-Paul Le Verrier in France in the late 1940s or 1950s, depicts a seated monk holding a deep bowl. Cast from a metal alloy of cool, deep silver-gray tone, it features a matte, subtly satin finish with gentle variations in tone visible on protruding areas: the head, hands, and bowl rim. Its monolithic, joint-free construction gives the object a sense of unity, while the smooth surface reveals delicate casting marks and minor age-consistent scratches under close inspection. The composition is defined by simplified, geometric lines—a hallmark of mid-century modern design—accentuated in the sharp beard, stylized facial features, and elongated limbs.
