This crystal bowl from the Mandruzatto glassworks, created in Murano around 1950, was crafted using the layered crystal glass technique known as 'sommerso', attributed to Flavio Poli. The bowl features a mid-century modern aesthetic with geometric, hand-faceted planes and angular cuts that create a vivid interplay of light and depth. The center displays a saturated pink, surrounded by a layer of rich ruby red and encased in clear crystal with subtle golden-yellow highlights along the edges. The surface is smooth and highly polished, showing no signs of wear or damage. Made from heavy, high-quality crystal, the bowl’s proportions (7 cm high, 16–17 cm in diameter) highlight its decorative and functional character. The bowl evokes the impression of sunlight captured in glass—each facet reflects the warmth of an Italian summer, while the interplay of colors and clarity brings a sense of movement and subtle energy. Its layered structure and substantial weight convey a sense of permanence, while the precision of hand-cut facets speaks to both craftsmanship and a spirit of artistic experimentation. This piece could be displayed on a low table or console, paired with simple wooden or metal elements to accentuate its vibrant depth and faceted texture. It works well alongside minimalist ceramics or neutral textiles, which allow the intense glass colors to stand out. Placing it where natural or focused light can enhance its reflections and color play—such as in a living room near a window or on a shelf with curated collectible objects—will reveal its full visual potential.
