ABOUT PRODUCTID 20586
This Art Nouveau napkin holder, produced by WMF in Germany around 1905, exemplifies the refined metalwork of the early twentieth century. Crafted from silvered, polished brass, it takes on a cool, silvery-white hue with a high-gloss, mirror-like finish that reflects light with clarity. The structure rests on four small, spherical feet, gently elevating the body above the table surface. The main panel is adorned with a symmetrical geometric openwork: a central diamond motif composed of smaller diamond cutouts, complemented by a horizontal band of smaller diamonds near the base. The silhouette is defined by a softly undulating line topped with a central triangular peak, referencing the organic, flowing lines characteristic of Art Nouveau. The craftsmanship is precise—cutouts and joints are cleanly executed, with no visible hardware or fasteners, and the proportions remain balanced and harmonious. The WMF maker’s mark on the underside attests to the authenticity and prestige of the German manufacturer. The item is preserved in very good condition, with no visible signs of restoration or replacement. This napkin holder carries the voice of the belle époque: the gentle wave of metal speaks of a time when everyday objects were ennobled by craftsmanship and finesse. The bleached brass reflects light as if wishing to capture the glow of Art Nouveau salons—filled with conversation, porcelain cups, and carefully folded napkins
