This late 19th-century neorococo casket was crafted in Warsaw from silver-plated copper. Its compact, harmonious form follows the historicist lines typical of its era, balancing utility with ornate detail. The matte, aged copper surface is accented by patches of surviving silver plating, producing a layered, variegated patina. The multi-faceted, gently domed lid features a raised floral motif, while the upper and lower edges are adorned with pressed vine and floral patterns. Four stylized feet shaped like lion's paws provide stability and a sense of historical character. An ornamental escutcheon with a keyhole marks the front, hinting at the casket's original role as a secure container. The condition is good – natural patina, minor abrasions, and visible silver wear attest to its age, yet there are no significant damages or signs of modern restoration.This casket carries the quiet voice of late 19th-century Warsaw – a city divided, where artistry flourished in the shadow of longing for former grandeur.
