ABOUT PRODUCTID 18118
This ornate desk pen stand from around 1900 was crafted in Poland from white metal, finished with a layer of nickel. The entire structure is rooted in metalwork typical of late Historicism, with pronounced Neo-Baroque influences visible in its elaborate openwork scrolls, acanthus leaves, and vegetal motifs. The primary hue is a cool, matte silvery tone, heightened by areas of distinguished patina. The surface reveals fine scratches and occasional spots of gentle oxidation, hallmarks of its historic provenance, yet the piece shows no deformation or structural flaws. The slightly raised central arch is designed to securely cradle several pens or pencils. Its condition is very good; all components appear original, unrestored, and the timeworn satin finish, along with the patina, underscores the object’s age and authenticity. The form of this pen stand—with its meandering ornaments and fluid metalwork—embodies the spirit of the turn of the 20th century, when applied art celebrated both decorative excess and artisanal finesse. The piece quietly evokes the story of a cabinet’s daily life during the era of Historicism and early Art Nouveau, when even a desk accessory was imbued with symbolic significance. The patinated surface bears subtle traces of the passage of time, channeling memories of pens set down thoughtfully, handwritten correspondence, and the blend of work and leisure that animated the era’s interiors. As a sophisticated accent, the desk pen stand may be placed on a classic writing desk, a broad console, or within a collector’s showcase.
