This sterling silver desk blotter, crafted at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Western Europe, exemplifies the meticulous artistry of late Victorian-era silversmithing. The construction features a mahogany wood base lined with blotting paper, enveloped by a finely worked sterling silver shell (925 standard). Its surface is richly adorned with raised motifs—garlands, rocaille, and flowing plant tendrils—executed in high relief and arranged symmetrically around the gently curved base. The central, domed handle is also decorated with detailed floral ornamentation, offering both visual interest and a comfortable grip. The proportions—8 cm in length, 4.4 cm in width, and 4.5 cm in height—are balanced, while the cool, matte silver surface bears a subtle, even patina that enhances its antique presence. The condition is very good, with no dents, replacements, or signs of heavy use; all decorative elements are original, and the patina is even and authentic. This compact object speaks of
