This hand-carved nutcracker from Nałęczów, Poland, exemplifies interwar-period Polish folk craftsmanship. The form combines an exaggerated devil’s head—marked by a pronounced brow, rhythmically grooved hair and beard, and a dramatically open mouth serving as the functional nut-cracking mechanism—with elongated, smoothly contoured, ergonomic handles. The piece is free of any metal elements, glue lines, or additional fittings; its construction is monolithic. A hand-engraved inscription “Nałęczów 1939” authenticates its origin and era, while the handle length creates visual balance with the sculpted head.
