This handwoven Chinese rug from the 1980s is crafted entirely from natural silk, combining traditional motifs with intricate detailing. The main field is adorned with three medallions in shades of gold and burgundy, each filled with classic Chinese symbols and surrounded by stylized floral ornaments. The dominant tone is a deep, warm red with a visible sheen, characteristic of fine silk. A wide border on a black ground introduces a wealth of geometric and floral designs in cream, pink, light brown, and gold. The edges are finished with a Greek key meander in red and gold, complemented by authentic white silk fringes on the shorter sides. The rug measures 124 × 230 cm (including fringe), with a thickness of approximately 10 mm and an impressive knot density of about 250,000 knots/m², indicating a high level of craftsmanship.
