This handwoven Chinese silk rug from the 1980s embodies the refined craftsmanship of traditional Far Eastern textile art. Made entirely of natural silk—both warp and weft—it features a dense, compact weave with an approximate knot density of 250,000 knots per square meter and a pile height of about 10 mm. The rectangular format (205 x 280 cm, including fringes) is dominated by a deep, cool navy blue, contrasted by a light beige and blue Greek key border. The central field is adorned with symmetrically arranged, classic Chinese symbolic motifs: vases, scrolls, and stylized floral compositions in shades of gold, pale brown, and light blue. Hand-knotted natural silk fringes accent both shorter sides. The surface is smooth and lustrous, with colors and details remaining original and exceptionally well-preserved, and the rug is in excellent, almost pristine condition—showing no visible signs of wear or restoration.
