ABOUT PRODUCTID 36726
The porcelain owl figurine, produced in 1965 by the 'Wawel' porcelain factory in Wałbrzych, is a compelling example of Polish 1960s design. Embodying the aesthetics of mid-century modern and the new look movement, the piece features a minimalist, stylized form. The cool, glossy white surface is contrasted by deep black accents on the head, talons, and feather details. The head is finished in high-gloss black with large, stylized white eyes, creating a strong graphic effect that underscores the modern character of the piece. Color transitions are sharp and deliberate, while the entire surface remains smooth and lustrous — typical of glazed porcelain. On the chest, the inscription 'XX I LIC' appears, with the dates '1945' and '1965' on the wings, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 1st High School in Wałbrzych. Details are achieved through painting and airbrushing techniques. The structure is monolithic with no visible seams. The figurine is in very good condition with no visible damage or traces of restoration. This piece echoes the spirit of the 1960s, a time when Polish design sought new, modern expressions and the owl stood as a symbol of wisdom and respect. Stylized, graphic lines and the contrast of black and white bring to mind the boldness of post-war modernism and the Picasso-inspired touches so present in the new look era. The owl’s gaze seems piercing, its form evoking the atmosphere of academic celebrations and the collector’s enthusiasm of a bygone age.The figurine can be displayed on
