ABOUT PRODUCTID 6981
This pair of armchairs, designed by Antonín Kropáček and Karel Kozelka in the 1940s, offers a distinguished example of mid-century modern style with subtle Art Deco undertones. The construction features a robust wooden frame in a deep espresso brown, finished in a semi-matte lacquer. The elegantly bent armrests transition smoothly into wide, low seats, emphasizing comfort and stability through their proportions. Both the seat and backrest are fitted with new, well-tailored cushions upholstered in a dense, charcoal-grey fabric with a subtly textured, slightly grainy feel. The underside of the seat reveals traditional beige webbing, a nod to classic craftsmanship. The entire set remains in excellent condition—wooden components show no signs of damage or restoration, and the new upholstery complements the original structure harmoniously. These armchairs capture the spirit of postwar Central Europe, where simplicity of form was a conscious choice rather than austerity. The curved, smooth wooden frames recall an era when craftsmanship and functionality were inseparable, with every detail serving a purpose. The modern graphite upholstery does not compete with the piece’s history; instead, it completes it, like a fresh chord in a familiar tune. The armchairs seem to whisper of interiors where rest, conversation, and understated elegance are valued. This pair can be combined with a geometric 1950s coffee table or a contemporary sofa with a clean silhouette, creating a dialogue between design eras. Their calm, balanced lines suit a living room styled in mid-century modern spirit, but are equally at home in eclectic, collector-inspired spaces where wood meets metal or glass. They pair well with textiles in natural, earthy tones and a minimalist lamp, highlighting both their heritage and timeless quality.
