ABOUT PRODUCTID 7072
This pair of armchairs, designed by Miroslav Navratil and produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s, embodies the essence of mid-century modern aesthetics. The chairs feature an organic, flowing silhouette with a broad, enveloping backrest and a distinctive oval cut-out at the lower back, lending an airy and contemporary appearance. The upholstery comes in a cool, medium blue with a muted, heathered effect, rendered in a visibly textured bouclé fabric that adds visual depth and tactile richness. The loose seat cushions are upholstered in the same fabric, ensuring consistency throughout. The solid wood legs, finished in a warm matte brown, are splayed outward in a manner characteristic of the 1960s, balancing stability with visual lightness. Subtle wood grain and harmonious proportions define the sculptural profile. The armchairs are in fully restored condition: the frames have been cleaned and refinished, with new padding and upholstery materials applied. These chairs evoke the voice of Central European modernism—a period when design aimed to be both functional and open to its surroundings. The rounded forms and blue textile recall the optimism and sense of progress of the 1960s, while the oval cut-out serves as both a practical detail and a subtle statement—an invitation to comfort and freedom. Even today, their form seems to express: “Here is a place for a pause, free from affectation, in harmony with proportion and the tactile quality of materials.” The pair can be positioned in a bright living room near a large window, allowing the depth of the heathered upholstery and the interplay of light
