ABOUT PRODUCTID 42637
This pair of armchairs, designed by Jindřich Halabala for UP Závody in the 1960s, is a distinguished example of Central European modernism, where functionality meets sculptural form. The construction features bent wood in a warm honey-brown tone, with visible grain and a satin finish that accentuates the organic character of the design. The signature wide armrests flow seamlessly into the frame, creating a continuous, undulating line. The seats are deep, with slightly reclined backs, and the upholstery in a rich royal blue is executed in a smooth, soft fabric with a matte to satin sheen. The legs are solid and geometric, cut from the same batch of wood, providing both stability and visual coherence. All joints are expertly concealed, attesting to a high level of craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. The armchairs are completely restored and presented in collector-grade condition, free from signs of use or damage. The stated price refers to the set – a pair of armchairs. These armchairs tell the story of the 1960s, when modernist discipline met the everyday need for comfort. The bent wood and generously curved armrests evoke the boldness of postwar design, which embraced organic lines and subtle contrasts of materials. The deep blue upholstery – saturated yet understated – recalls the atmosphere of living rooms where both functionality and reverence for quality craftsmanship
