ABOUT PRODUCTID 9637
This pair of GFM-87 armchairs, designed by Juliusz Kędziorek and produced by Gościcińskie Fabryki Mebli in the early 1970s, exemplifies the compact form and distinct geometry characteristic of Polish modernism of that era. The structure is based on a light oak frame, finished with a semi-matte lacquer that highlights the natural wood grain. The splayed, tapered legs and gently shaped armrests provide ergonomic support and visual clarity. The upholstery is made of high-quality, densely woven fabric in a muted olive green, complementing the overall design. Seat height is set at 39 cm for optimal comfort. The armchairs underwent professional carpentry and upholstery restoration, with no visible signs of wear or patina; all joints and details remain solid and meticulously finished. Condition: excellent, fully restored. These armchairs carry the spirit of the 1970s – a period when Polish design drew inspiration from the North while maintaining its unique identity. The clean lines, light construction, and matte green upholstery evoke a sense of calm, optimistic everyday life, where furniture was meant to be a practical companion. Smooth armrests and soft upholstery seem to speak of long, unhurried afternoons and conversations over coffee – there is a modern note here, yet without austerity. The GFM-87 armchairs can be combined with other icons of Polish mid-century modern as well as with simple, contemporary sofas in a neutral palette. They work well in a living room filled with natural light, accompanied by a low wooden or glass coffee table and a minimalist floor lamp. Pairing them with beige or grey textiles will accentuate the olive upholstery, while potted plants and ceramics in natural tones will create a harmonious, collector-worthy environment.
