ABOUT PRODUCTID 30736
This pair of armchairs, designed by František Jirák and produced by Tatra Nabytok in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s, stands as a notable example of Central European mid-century modern design. The construction features a sturdy wooden frame with sculptural bent plywood armrests, emphasizing the era’s language of geometry and proportion: wide and low, with a relaxed, inviting posture. The upholstery, in a warm beige tone, is made from a subtly textured, matte fabric that was replaced a few years ago. The wood and plywood display a honey-brown satin finish, accentuating the natural wood grain. Visible metal screws and wooden plugs (with one plug missing) remain as original details, preserving the authentic character of the piece. The price is for one armchair. The chairs are in good condition, showing only minor signs of use typical for vintage items: small scuffs to the wood and light wear to the upholstery, with no major damage. The structure is complete and stable. These armchairs carry the calm voice of 1960s Central Europe: forms are simple yet striking, speaking of trust in function and craft. The bent armrests merge seamlessly with the splayed legs, creating a visual rhythm of subtle curves and angles that, though understated, offer a quiet harmony. The matte texture of the upholstery and the warmth of the wood evoke the atmosphere of living rooms where generations gathered, each decade adding a new chapter to the chair’s story.
