ABOUT PRODUCTID 8443
This pair of figural salt shakers, crafted in Germany during the 1930s, is made from glazed ceramic with a smooth, glossy finish. Each shaker takes the form of a stylized dog—one in warm white with gentle, light brown airbrushed shading on the ears, back, and tail, and a hand-painted black nose; the other in uniform, high-gloss white, featuring a hand-painted orange bow at the neck and fine black lines accentuating the facial features. The compact silhouettes and geometric forms are underscored by restrained detail, echoing the Art Deco aesthetic. Both dogs display expressive faces: solidly constructed, hand-finished with distinctive modelled details and flat bases for stable placement. The shakers measure 5.5 cm and 5 cm in height, 4.5 cm and 3.5 cm in width, and 3.4 cm and 3 cm in depth. They are preserved in very good condition, with no cracks or chips—only minor paint wear consistent with age, and the original cork stoppers are missing. These small objects offer a quiet narrative of the 1930s—a time when even everyday table accessories became vessels of style and mood. The slightly melancholic, soulful gazes of the dogs reflect an era when Art Deco drew character from simplicity and attention to detail, allowing expressive individuality to emerge from functional forms. Each dog seems to tell its own story—of home rituals, playful imagination, and a European craft tradition that imbued utilitarian items with personality. These salt shakers could be placed on a breakfast or coffee table as a discreet accent in an Art Deco, retro, or eclectic setting
