This pair of hand-carved, polychrome wooden horse sculptures from India, dating to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, exemplifies the finesse of traditional Asian craftsmanship. Each figure is shaped from smooth wood, with a warm, brick-red body offset by cool, pale green on the neck, back, and hindquarters. The horses are depicted in festive tack: saddles and harnesses richly decorated with stylized floral motifs in white, red, and yellow, bordered by geometric patterns in black and gold. Manes feature dark blue or black stripes, highlighting the stylized form typical of late 19th-century Indian folk art.
