ABOUT PRODUCTID 42411
This pair of lounge chairs designed by Miroslav Navrátil in the 1950s exemplifies Czechoslovak modernism, where a molded fiberglass shell is elegantly combined with tapered legs made of light solid wood. Each chair features a separate seat cushion upholstered in a woven fabric by Shaco—one in a cool, muted turquoise with black speckling, the other in a warm, muted brick red with black speckling. The fabric’s pronounced, matte texture highlights the softness of the lines and the sculptural quality of the form. The legs are angled and tapered, joined by diagonal stretchers, evoking mid-century inspiration and accentuating the natural wood grain. The proportions remain compact, yet provide a wide, ergonomic seat and enveloping backrest. The form of these chairs is a dialogue between material and movement—smooth transitions and organically shaped lines evoke a sense of freedom and a focus on comfort. The contrasting upholstery colors add a subtle graphic rhythm and lightness to the set while preserving stylistic cohesion. The spirit of modernism is palpable: an economy of means, respect for materials, and a tension between geometry and organic form, lending a contemporary yet timeless character. The chairs are well suited for a spacious living room, paired with a low light wood table or a minimalist rug. They can be combined with a floor lamp providing soft, diffused light, and complemented by geometric decorations or mid-century modern-inspired graphics. In such an arrangement, they will highlight the modern, collectable flair of the interior while maintaining warmth and comfort.
