ABOUT PRODUCTID 19729
This pair of salt shakers from the 1920s, created by the Ćmielów Porcelain Factory, is a fine example of Art Deco figural design. Each shaker takes the form of a stylized stork, rendered in a compact, geometric silhouette, standing on a small rectangular base with a seamlessly integrated, subtle tail. The glazed porcelain is finished in a warm ivory white, offering a smooth, lustrous surface. Hand-painted detailing distinguishes each piece: one has delicate gold highlights on the beak and base, the other features a deep, matte burgundy-red beak and tail. Both sport prominent, oval black eyes with hand-outlined contours. The design is well-proportioned, with an emphasis on modernist simplicity. Underside filling holes are provided, intended for cork stoppers (not pictured). Condition is very good—there are no chips, cracks, or evident signs of wear, preserving the integrity and tactile quality of the original glaze. These shakers evoke the spirit of Polish Art Deco: the porcelain’s soft sheen reflects ambient light, while the geometric stork motif echoes the optimistic, inventive atmosphere of the interwar years. Within the minimalist form, there’s a suggestion of nostalgia—an age when design sought both clarity and gentle, playful character. The gold and deep red accents serve as a subtle testament to craftsmanship and a hint of whimsical charm in the otherwise rational decorum of the period. This pair may serve as a conversational accent on the dining table, complementing classic porcelain sets or lending character to contemporary ceramics.
