ABOUT PRODUCTID 27016
This pair of vintage side tables, designed by Willy Ballez in the 1970s, exemplifies an architectural approach to functional form. Each table features a solid travertine base in a light beige shade, displaying natural veining and a subtly rough, matte texture characteristic of the stone. The base is constructed from four vertical stone slabs intersected by horizontal elements, forming a geometric, sculptural composition reminiscent of modernist and brutalist influences of the era. The removable tabletop is made of clear, beveled glass, cut into a square with softly rounded corners, adding transparency and lightness to the substantial stone base. Proportions are carefully balanced: the heavy base offers stability, while the glass top introduces visual levity. The visible stone details and absence of hardware emphasize the noble materials and precise craftsmanship. Condition: very good, with no chips or cracks; minor signs of use and natural patina on the travertine may be present, consistent with the age and material. These tables echo the voice of the 1970s, a period when design explored monumental forms and refined natural materials. The travertine, cool and composed, speaks of a search for permanence and an appreciation of simplicity, while the glass top—almost a plane of light—balances the stone’s weight. It is a duet of contrasting temperaments: raw solidity and transparent lightness, recalling the dialogue between architectural brutalism and domestic comfort. The tables articulate a language of measured geometry, where every detail is intentional and considered. This pair may be used together as coffee tables or separately as
