ABOUT PRODUCTID 9239
This pair of Danish wall candle holders from the 1960s showcases Scandinavian decorative arts from the mid-century modern era. The structure is composed of matte black metal, shaped into symmetrical, flowing scrolls that frame a centrally placed square ceramic tile. The tiles are glazed in a vivid, glassy orange, streaked with yellow and lighter orange marbling to evoke a sunburst or stylized floral motif. The metal candle platforms are round and securely attached to ornate, curled supports, while the overall proportions remain balanced—each sconce measures 20 cm in height and width, and 19 cm in depth from the wall. The pieces are preserved in very good condition with only minor signs of age-appropriate use; the ceramic tiles are free from chips or cracks, and no evidence of restoration is present. These sconces reflect the spirit of the 1960s, when Scandinavian design embraced bold color and sculptural restraint. The glazed tiles seem to capture a fragment of a summer afternoon—an interplay of light and color that was central to the optimism and creative exploration of the era. The swirling metalwork introduces a sense of movement and airiness, embodying the mid-century search for new forms and expressive details. Each element reveals careful craftsmanship and a belief in functional objects as artistic decor. The sconces can be introduced into a mid-century modern interior, paired with teak or mahogany furniture and pieces defined by clean lines. They would suit placement above a low sideboard, perhaps alongside abstract artwork or a collection of Scandinavian ceramics.
