ABOUT PRODUCTID 29998
This pair of wall sconces, designed by Sigvard Bernadotte for IFÖ Electric in Sweden during the 1970s, exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian modernism with a distinctly minimalist approach. The organic forms are built on slender, vertical bases in glazed stoneware, finished in a warm olive-brown hue with a glossy surface that subtly reflects light. The elongated, tapered opaline glass shades in milky white transition smoothly from the base, forming a harmonious, teardrop-like silhouette. The proportions between base and shade are balanced, while the characteristic smooth surfaces and gentle curves create a calm, functional impression. Mounting elements remain discreet, and the sconces are in very good condition – the original finishes are preserved, with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of wear. The lamps are fully operational. These sconces echo the voice of Swedish design in the 1970s: restraint in form meets the gentle softness of light. Bernadotte designed objects to integrate quietly into interiors, with the shades diffusing the glow and the ceramic bases reflecting it – as if the lamps invite a moment of pause. Their organic silhouette feels like a dialogue between nature and craftsmanship: calm, gentle, and focused on everyday comfort. These sconces can be paired with simple, light-colored walls or natural-toned backdrops to highlight their minimalist character. They work well in mid-century modern or Scandinavian settings, alongside wooden furniture with clean lines, graphite textiles, or simple artworks in slim frames. It is worth combining them with other sources of diffuse light or ceramics in similar tones to create a cohesive, harmonious rhythm in the space.
