This 1920s paperweight, crafted by hand from three distinct types of stone, combines geometric simplicity and sculptural detail in the manner of early Art Deco. Its base features a matte black marble block, supporting a rectangular slab of creamy marble highlighted by dramatic golden-brown veining and a glossy, light-reflective finish that accentuates the natural patterning. Crowning the structure is an egg-shaped accent of onyx in warm amber and brown hues, polished to a gleaming surface. On top of the onyx element, a previously repaired area is visible, marked by a subtle difference in color. The overall composition, harmonious in proportion and executed with evident manual skill, is strongly reminiscent of the Art Deco aesthetics of the early 1920s. The paperweight’s condition is generally good: aside from the repaired section on the onyx and very minor wear on the marbles, all parts remain original and cohesive.
The form of this object echoes an era when functionality met refined ornament.
