ABOUT PRODUCTID 12429
The Kastor wall sconces, designed by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup in 1962, exemplify Danish lighting design in the mid-century modern style. Each sconce features a solid copper body, meticulously polished to a mirror finish that accentuates the metal's rich orange-gold tone. Three elongated, almond-shaped segments are arranged vertically, forming a sculptural, dynamic silhouette that evokes both flower petals and rocket fins. The construction is precise, with seamless joints and a discreetly integrated mounting plate, preserving the clean lines of the design. The copper surface is smooth and uniform, reflecting light and surroundings. Each sconce measures 37 cm in height, 20 cm in width, and 14 cm in depth. The condition is very good for their age, with only minimal signs of use and a slight patina, consistent with careful handling over the decades. The Kastor sconces embody the optimism and pursuit of modernity characteristic of 1960s Danish design. Their sculptural structure speaks with the voice of an era when light was seen not merely as function but as an element shaping the ambience of interiors. The lustrous copper reflects its environment, drawing light and shadow into a dialogue with the architecture, while the dynamic arrangement of segments hints at a story of movement, progress, and refined simplicity. These sconces could be paired with furnishings that feature pronounced, geometric lines—such as dark wood shelving, low sideboards, or modernist armchairs with upholstered seats. They also complement natural materials: wool rugs, matte ceramics, or framed graphic art. In a mid-century modern or Scandinavian minimalist interior, the sconces will resonate as luminous sculptural accents; in more eclectic arrangements, they may serve as a focal point, introducing a warm metallic note to the space.
