ABOUT PRODUCTID 23950
The Artichoke pendant lamp by Peill & Putzler is a German example of Space Age design from the 1970s. The shade is crafted from double-layered glass: the outer surface features a vivid, glossy orange hue, while the inner layer is white, enhancing the diffusion of light. Its distinctive geometric relief recalls artichoke leaves or Op Art motifs, and the top is finished with a chrome metal cap. The lamp is suspended from a black cord and a cylindrical, matte black ceiling rose. The glass surface is smooth, with pronounced, rounded protrusions forming a flattened spherical silhouette—27 cm wide and 80 cm high. The orange glass imbues the piece with visual intensity, while the high-gloss sheen and metallic chrome contrast gently with the matte suspension elements. The lamp is in good condition, with no chips or cracks in the glass and minor signs of use on the chrome; the electrical components have been replaced for modern safety. This lamp channels the voice of an era captivated by the space race and new technologies. The orange glass reflects light like a pulsing planet, while the geometric pattern tells of a fascination with movement, optical illusions, and the bold color palette of the 1970s. The relief surface softens the silhouette, creating luminous reflections that, in the evening, become a dynamic interplay of shadow and light—as if the lamp itself recalls the stylistic freedom of its time. The lamp could serve as a statement piece above a dining table or as the focal point of a living room inspired by mid-century modern
