The PH 4/3 pendant lamp, designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen and introduced in 1966, is a quintessential example of Scandinavian modernism from the 1960s. Its construction is based on three cascading aluminum shades arranged according to a logarithmic spiral, ensuring optimal light diffusion. The lamp is finished in a cool, matte shade of white – from the shades to the central cylinder and upper mounting element – resulting in a cohesive, minimalist form. The smooth, uniform aluminum surface and absence of visible joints or screws, combined with the subtle matte sheen, highlight the high level of craftsmanship. The iconic three-shade system, originally conceived in 1929, is simplified here without sacrificing functionality: the E27 bulb (up to 60W) directs light downward, which is evenly diffused. The lamp is preserved in excellent condition, with no visible signs of use – fully functional, with new wiring. In both form and material, the PH 4/3 lamp echoes the voice of an era when Danish designers championed simplicity and utility.
