ABOUT PRODUCTID 30778
This mid-century modern pendant lamp from the 1960s, produced in former Czechoslovakia, exemplifies the minimalist design language of the era. The shade, measuring 33 cm in diameter and 27 cm in height, is crafted from double-layered glass: the exterior features a bold, glossy yellow, while the inner layer is white, ensuring a soft and even diffusion of light. The lamp’s form is rooted in geometric simplicity—the upper section is dome-shaped, the lower cylindrical—suspended from a textile-covered grey cord with a matte white ceiling rose. The cable and socket have been replaced, but all visible elements remain authentic to the period. There are no signs of cracks, chips, or restoration; the glass surface is smooth and well-preserved, reflecting a very good condition.
This lamp resonates with the optimism of the 1960s, when color and light offered a counterpoint to the austerity of daily life. The yellow glass draws the eye, as if determined to brighten even the dullest day, while the minimalist silhouette lets the form and color speak for themselves. It seems to tell the story of a time when modernist functionality embraced a new boldness in color, bringing energy and lightness to interiors without sacrificing compositional clarity.
It can be suspended above a dining table or as a centerpiece in a living area, where the saturated yellow becomes the focal point of the room. The lamp works well in mid-century inspired interiors, but also as a counterpoint among cooler tones and clean forms—paired with light wood furniture, white ceramics, or graphite accents.
