This handwoven Persian Meshed rug, measuring 220 × 330 cm, exemplifies traditional craftsmanship from south-eastern Iran. The wool pile, laid over a cotton warp, forms the foundation for a composition that adheres to classical conventions: a deep, saturated red dominates the central field, surrounded by a wide navy border intricately adorned with floral motifs, medallions, and arabesque ornamentation. Decorative elements in shades of blue, cream, gold, and camel are harmoniously distributed against the subtly lustrous and evenly sheared surface. The pile is smooth and feels silky, while both short ends terminate in clean, finely finished fringes. The design and proportions evoke late 19th to early 20th-century Persian rug-making, characteristic of the urban Meshed tradition.
