This elliptical photo frame from the Napoleon III period, crafted in France around 1880, exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of the late 19th century. The frame is cast bronze, chiseled and gilded, adorned with intricate raised floral and foliate motifs at all four cardinal points of its elliptical silhouette. Delicate beading and ornamental scrollwork trace the inner and outer edges, enhancing its decorative appeal. The warm, gilded tone is enriched by a natural patina and subtle signs of age, while a clear glass pane at the front protects the photograph within. Its construction enables both standing display (thanks to a robust, movable rear support) and wall mounting via a hanging loop. The patented mechanism allows the frame to be set vertically or horizontally by adjusting the support. External dimensions are 13 × 10 cm, and it accommodates a photo sized 11.5 × 8.5 cm. The frame is preserved in very good condition, showing only minor signs of wear and some expected gilding loss consistent with its age.
