ABOUT PRODUCTID 4825
This pineapple-shaped vase was designed by Frantisek Koudelka in the 1980s for the Prachen glassworks in Czechoslovakia. Crafted from crystal glass, it features a striking gradient palette: the broad, undulating rim transitions from deep red through amber-orange to a vivid, lemon yellow at the rounded base. The surface is covered with pronounced, hand-formed protrusions that closely mimic the texture of a pineapple’s skin, creating a tactile, three-dimensional effect. The top is artistically sculpted into four broad, organic petals, giving the piece a dynamic, natural character. The vase stands 17 cm tall with a diameter of 13 cm, and its base is precisely ground. It remains in very good vintage condition, showing only a partial chip to one of the protrusions, with no signs of repair or restoration. The vase tells the story of an era when 1980s Czechoslovakian glasswork celebrated pop-art boldness and a playful approach to color. Its vibrant transitions, wavy rim, and hand-shaped details evoke the spirit of experimentation with material and light so typical of late 20th-century Central European design. The pronounced reliefs invite touch, emphasizing the artisan’s skill and the individuality of each piece, while the way light plays across the textured surface gives it an ever-changing, lively presence—like a memento of the energetic 1980s. This vase would make a striking focal point on a console in the living room, particularly in spaces inspired by eclectic pop-art or vintage collector interiors. It can be paired with smooth surfaces—lacquered side
