ABOUT PRODUCTID 8922
This pendant lamp, designed by Jo Hammerborg for Danish brand Fog & Mørup in 1963, is a distinctive example of Scandinavian mid-century modernism. Its structure features three concentric, painted metal shades in a matte, off-white tone. The geometric, cascading form diffuses light both downward and outward, in line with Hammerborg’s signature reflective system. The black fabric-covered cord and new metal ceiling rose emphasize its functional character. The surface displays a fine-grained metal texture and subtle traces of age, including a small area of heat discoloration on the lower edge. The lamp is preserved in very good condition, with minimal signs of wear. This lamp echoes the voice of the 1960s, when Scandinavian design championed clarity of form and light. The tiered shades create a graphic rhythm, gently shaping the glow—never glaring, but inviting calm and soft diffusion. The matte, slightly warm metal surface seems to recount an era when light was meant to foster comfort and balance, with every detail serving everyday function. The lamp can be suspended above a dining table or as a central feature in the living room, making the most of its even light distribution. It would work well in a mid-century modern setting, alongside warm teak furniture, upholstery in natural tones, and minimalist accents—ceramics, glass, or wall graphics. It is worth combining with simple forms and neutral colors, allowing its geometric profile and gentle off-white shade to become a subtle highlight within the interior.
