ABOUT PRODUCTID 5721
This Belgian Art Nouveau pitcher from the 1930s is crafted from glazed ceramic, featuring a deep, cool black base with iridescent undertones of dark green and blue that shift subtly with the light. The glaze is applied in an organic, uneven manner, creating flowing, drip-like patterns characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The handle is sculpted in the form of a stylized animal—most likely a lizard—adding a dynamic, naturalistic accent. The vessel displays soft, rounded proportions with a gently flared spout and a small, circular foot. The surface is smooth and highly glossy, with the piece preserved in very good condition, bearing only minimal signs of use consistent with its age. This object conveys the spirit of late Art Nouveau—a period when art and craft seamlessly intertwined, and inspiration drawn from flora and fauna animated everyday items. The pitcher appears to tell the story of a pursuit of organic form; its lively, lizard-shaped handle pays homage to the fascination with nature, while the shimmering, shifting glaze evokes a sense of movement and light, still vibrant within the ceramic body. It brings into the interior a subtle echo of past experiments with texture and color, capturing the fleeting lightness of the Art Nouveau era. Thanks to its sculptural character, the pitcher can be paired with Art Nouveau-era furnishings or, in contrast, with simple contemporary forms to highlight its organic line. It will stand out as a solo piece on a light-veneered sideboard or against soft, matte walls in shades of grey or navy. It may be combined with glass or metal accessories featuring botanical motifs, or with a single, delicate branch to emphasize the dynamic handle and fluid silhouette of the pitcher.
