ABOUT PRODUCTID 42131
This vintage ceramic planter, crafted using the traditional salt glaze (salzglasur) technique, originates from Germany in the 1970s and exemplifies the era’s fusion of craftsmanship and bold ornamentation. The cylindrical, robust form features a slightly flared rim and a pronounced base, rendered in a warm, medium brown accented by a delicate crackle effect. Glossy deep cobalt blue bands encircle the rim and base, framing intricate, raised floral and foliate relief motifs in blue and brown with beige outlines. The central stylized flower and swirling leaves are highlighted by the salt glaze’s characteristic sheen and subtle irregularities, while the overall glossy finish intensifies the vibrancy of the colors and the tactile quality of the decoration. The planter is in very good condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The form of this planter speaks to the spirit of 1970s German design, when ceramic traditions merged with a modernist approach to ornament and color. The salt introduced during firing creates a unique, slightly rustic surface, evoking the atmosphere of folk art yet rendered with the symmetry and order of modernism. It quietly preserves the mark of the artisan’s hand and the creative pulse of an era that sought new expressions in everyday objects. The planter would fit seamlessly into interiors inspired by vintage or mid-century modern aesthetics, as well as rustic or japandi-style spaces where natural materials and simplicity combine with decorative detail. It can be paired with wood, stone, or glass, and styled with large-leaved plants or single branches. For a collector’s display, it could be grouped with other 1960s and 1970s ceramics to highlight the variety of textures and earthy tones. The piece will bring a sense of authenticity and visual depth to any arrangement without overwhelming
