ABOUT PRODUCTID 32818
This ceramic planter by Fratelli Fanciullacci, dating from the 1960s, exemplifies the Italian mid-century modern approach, where form and color are given equal importance. Its construction is based on a solid, well-proportioned body measuring 14 cm in diameter and 12 cm in height, with a 10 cm base. The piece is distinguished by a pierced band near the rim—rectangular cutouts and a raised geometric relief create an architectural ring around the form. The vivid red glaze, finished to a high gloss and accented with irregular black speckling, lends the surface a dynamic, almost graphic quality. The interior is coated in a contrasting, deep glossy black glaze. Edges of the relief and cutouts are crisply defined; the entire surface is smooth to the touch, retaining its original period finish. The planter is preserved in excellent vintage condition, with no visible damage or evidence of restoration. This object echoes the voice of the Italian avant-garde of the 1960s—its bold red and geometric motif speak of an era eager for new forms of expression and unafraid of contrast. The openwork cutouts evoke architectural inspirations, as if the ceramic sought to capture light and shadow in a single, dynamic composition. It is a piece that wears its origin openly: the gloss of the glaze reflects memories of Italian design, in which function and decoration are inseparably intertwined. The planter may be used as a standalone decorative accent or paired with other mid-century ceramics. It would work well atop a light wood sideboard, where its vibrant red becomes a counterpoint to natural materials. It can be combined with planters in neutral tones—white, grey, or black
