The decorative plate 'Kapelusz' was designed by Jan Sowiński in 1958 for the Włocławek Faience Factory. Made of glazed and hand-painted faience, it measures 30 cm in diameter and 5 cm in height. The cool, medium gray surface serves as a background for a dynamic, abstract geometric composition: circles, stripes, and rectangles in shades of teal green, burgundy, yellow, and purple are separated by bold, black hand-drawn lines, complemented by scattered black dots. The plate features a smooth, glossy finish and retains all its original elements. The condition is very good, with no visible signs of use, damage, or restoration. This plate embodies the vitality of Polish mid-century modern—a testament to the artistic spirit of the 1950s, when geometry and color shaped postwar optimism. The abstract pattern channels a fascination with movement and rhythm, characteristic of the period's design—each line and spot of color seems to converse with both avant-garde art and everyday life. Its glossy surface reflects light, highlighting the energy of the hand-painted decoration. The plate can be used as a decorative centerpiece on a modern table or console, fitting equally well in a living or dining room. It may be paired with ceramics from the same era or minimalist accessories in neutral tones to accentuate its expressive colors. Perfect for mid-century modern interiors, it could also enliven a more contemporary and subdued setting—serving as a focal point on light wood or among glass, metal, and natural fabrics.
